I*XL Celebrated California Bowie

This knife features markings popular in the California gold rush era. The marks are applied using traditional deep acid etching and the blade bears the words "Equal Rights" beneath the Eagle and "Geo. Wostenholm & Son. Celebrated CALIFORNIA KNIFE". The ricasso is stamped with the world famous I*XL trademark and Made in SHEFFIELD ENGLAND. The reverse of the ricasso is stamped with the familiar 1800's wording "G. WOSTENHOLM & SON / WASHINGTON WORKS / NONE ARE GENUINE BUT THOSE MARKED I*XL"

This blade features a Damascus pattern known as “Odin’s Eye” in 3/8” stock. Each piece of steel is carefully selected so that the characteristic “grain” of the material is revealed and emphasised by the hand grinding, polishing and etching processes; the latter a method we have specially developed to produce a unique knife of breathtaking beauty.

The blade is marked with the world famous I*XL trademark and an Eagle perched on top of three crossed arrows, applied to the Damascus using a brand new technique. Featuring a classic patriotic scroll from 1800's America. The ricasso is stamped on the top side "I*XL Sheffield, England" and on the reverse side "G. Wostenholm, Washington Works, none are genuine but those marked I*XL". The blade is deep acid etched with the American Bald Eagle and "Equal Rights" and a scroll containing the words "The United States, the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave, protected by Her noble brave volunteers. Geo. Wostenholm & Son sole manufacturer of the real I*XL cutlery. Americans ask for nothing but what is right and submit to nothing that is wrong" beneath.

American's Pride I*XL

The ricasso is stamped on the top side "G. Wostenholm, Washington Works, none are genuine but those marked I*XL" and on the reverse side "I*XL Sheffield, England". The flat of the blade features other famous stamp marks from I*XL history including a scroll which is proudly stamped "The Real I*XL Knife". The blade is also deep acid etched with genuine marks from the archives. The words "Geo Wostenholm & Son, Sole Manufacturers of the Celebrated I*XL Cutlery" and "The Americans Pride, Equal rights Equal laws & Equal justice to all" sit either side of a majestic Eagle with outstretched wings perched atop a scroll reading "California Knife".  This knife is sometimes called The California Eagle Knife.

Cast and polished traditional Bowie guard in the top hat style.

The material is nickel silver, often known as German silver, which was a popular material for American-era Bowie Knives. It is expertly fitted and meticulously polished by our Sheffield craftsmen.

This classic Bowie guard is the only choice at present but more will follow in due course.

The traditional Rosewood scales are pinned to the through tang and polished by hand to match the guard and end-caps.

Buffalo

The traditional Buffalo Horn scales are pinned to the through tang and polished and shaped by hand to reveal the beautiful darker and lighter shades of the material and to match the guard.
